This workshop is designed for all levels of professionals who work with captive non-releasable raptors used for education or on public display. The information presented is based on over 25 years of experience with educational programming using non-releasable North American raptors. Carolina Raptor Center reaches 43,000 people annually on education programs, and hosts over 38,000 visitors annually to our nature trail. We maintain a collection of nearly 100 permanent resident raptors (24 different species!), half of which are on display on our nature trail while the other half act as ambassadors and travel on outreach programs throughout North and South Carolina. We are also fortunate to have a premiere rehabilitation center that has seen over 12,000 raptor patients! If you are looking for an intensive learning experience that combines lectures, panel discussions and hands-on practice sessions, this is it!

The seminars are held at Carolina Raptor Center's environmental education center, located inside a nature preserve about 20 minutes from Charlotte, North Carolina. Limited class size enhances opportunities for discussions and hands-on opportunities. The class will divide into small groups for hands-on sessions, each supervised by a trainer to ensure that everyone will be able to practice new techniques.

Topics for the first day of the December workshop include:

Obtaining federal and state permits, diet bird selection, basic handling and training, and cage design.

Topics for the second day of the December workshop include:

Education program development, handling and training, challenging birds, and advanced behavior training.
